Course Outline
This 1 day course will clarify the principles laid down in Montgomery, which are now enshrined in the GMC ‘s Decision Making and Consent Guidance, and provide practical examples and exercises, allowing medical professionals to safely explore the legal doctrine of “informed consent”, with particular regard to what is, and what is not, evidence based information and support with regard to clinical negligence matters.
The course will also allow professionals time to discuss their own concerns and experiences and engage in discussion with both the Trainer and their colleagues about these.
It is of vital importance that clear, intelligible and accurate records are kept in all stages of discussions with patients and this course will also provide guidance as to the nature and extent of such records, as well as techniques for quickly making and keeping accurate records.
