Course Outline:

This course is designed to equip investigators with the knowledge and skills to conduct interviews with suspects, victims or witnesses in serious and complex investigations.

Understanding the law and procedures relevant to a range of interviews
Considering the different types of interview and the appropriate interviewing models
Confidence in undertaking Cognitive Interviews to best practice standards
Effectively plan and prepare for different types of interview including who to interview and in what order to interview an interviewee and how to co-ordinate evidence gained
Handling inconsistencies in the account given by the interviewee and other available evidence and how to challenge professionally
Understand and effectively use special warnings in an interview
Maximising the impact of disclosing evidence, before and during the interview
Dealing effectively with solicitors, silences and selective answering
Identifying and managing different forms of interviewee resistance
Balancing their investigative role and powers with the individual's rights
Extensive role play to enhance skill
