Control and Restraint Training

Course Outline:

This course is for those exposed to similar hostile, threatening, aggressive and violent behaviour, but who carry batons and handcuffs.

This course will teach staff how to use body armour, batons and handcuffs in a manner where the risk of injury to themselves and those detained is reduced to a minimum. The techniques, concepts and teaching methodologies are in line with those currently taught to police officers across the UK. They are tried and tested, simple, effective and safe when used correctly.  Delegates we become fully aware of the concept of minimum force, for a minimum duration to time, as a last resort. They also be provided with the necessary information on  the relevant laws and legislation related to the use of force.

The training we provide is robust, but not excessively strenuous, and if staff are in reasonably good physical shape, they should be able to complete the course.

Key Learning Outcomes:

  • Use active listening and observe body language to recognise changes in situations and threat escalation
  • Construct flexible operational risk assessments on arrival at site to cater for escape routes or unexpected changes in circumstances
  • Avoid violent behaviour, or if necessary, respond to it appropriately including use of breakaway techniques, emergency holds, batons and cuffs
  • Specify the law relating to the use of force and its limitations
  • Transport arrested persons in the correct manner
