Course Outline:

Our Brazilian employment law course will delve into anticipated and potential changes to the law.

2023 saw big changes in Brazil employment law. Following the election of President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva a new wave of employee rights and employer obligations are certain, these were explicitly part of the new programme of government which is being introduced.

Our Brazil law session will explore these planned changes and will touch on what further changes may follow.

  • The cost of employment rights and benefits in Brazil 
  • Court precedents and current rules regarding outsourcing legislation 
  • Employee unions, employer unions and collective bargaining agreements 
  • Employee dismissal and the Severance Guarantee Fund System (FGTS) 
  • Employment rights in mergers and acquisitions and in sale and purchase of assets 
  • Visa arrangements for foreign workers operating in Brazil 
  • The legal implications of organising shift work

José is the Practice Group Leader for Veirano Advogados’s Consumer Litigation team and the national Practice Group Leader for the Labour Group. His practice focuses on Consumer Litigation and Labour Law. He brings significant industry knowledge to his clients in the pharmaceutical, medical technologies, technology or software, and consumer product/service industries. 

José's consumer litigation and consulting clients value his deep experience in handling statutory liability cases, negotiation and termination of contracts, specialising in software licensing and agency/distribution contracts. He also handles litigation for clients and counsels them on compensation and benefits policies, terminations, employee relocation and transfer, and special employment conditions
