Excellence in Written Evidence for Analysts

Course Outline:

This course assists analysts to understand what is required from their written evidence.

They will consider the content of statements and charts by examining the source and weight of evidence to be included and will learn to distinguish between facts, assumptions, inferences and opinions. They will also consider the style and format of statements and charts including content, structure and use of iconography and colour.

Key Learning Outcomes:

  • The importance of clear instructions/ tasking
  • The difference between intelligence and evidence
  • How to use records and notes as the primary source of evidence on which the statement and chart is based
  • What to include and exclude
  • How to identify the issues and the facts, and the source and weight of those facts
  • Appropriate layout, format, structure, style and content including iconography and colour
  • Using written evidence to insulate against cross-examination
