Introduction to Intelligence

Course Outline:

This course introduces staff to the intelligence processes including how to grade intelligence, evaluate intelligence sources, develop intelligence and to sanitise it for safe dissemination.

The aim of this course is to familiarise staff with the processing of intelligence and introduce them to the intelligence evaluation and grading systems. In the afternoon, learners work through case studies to assist them in understanding how to put the principles into practice.

Key Learning Outcomes:

  • Understand the difference between information, intelligence and evidence.
  • Construct an effective Intelligence Report including:
    • Content
    • Classification (3x5x2)
    • Source Evaluation
    • Intelligence Evaluation 
    • Dissemination
  • Apply the phases of the Intelligence Cycle & develop an Intelligence Collection Plan
  • Evaluate the National Intelligence Model
  • Understand how to protect sources of intelligence
  • Examine the purpose of the 'Sterile Corridor’
  • Practice learnt material through a case study
