Course Outline:

The way evidence is gathered has a major impact on successful investigations.
This course equips delegates with essential knowledge of the relevant law, evidence and procedures to carry out an effective and compliant investigation. The training covers the different types and sources of evidence and how this evidence will be collected and recorded to ensure it is that it is relevant, admissible and credible.

  • Understanding relevant legislation, procedures and codes
  • The Human Rights Act and related law
  • Explaining and applying the balance between an investigator’s powers and an individual’s rights
  • Recognising and obtaining different types of evidence: oral, documentary, real, circumstantial and hearsay
  • How to collect evidence and maintain continuity of exhibits
  • Distinguishing between facts, assumptions and opinions
  • Analysis and evaluation of evidence (case analysis)
  • Best practice in record-keeping, note-taking and handling disclosure
