Small numbers of witnesses over recent years have given evidence remotely to courts and there have been plans to move courts from being analogue to digital. The coronavirus has massively sped up this process and last week it was announced that all hearings in the civil courts should be virtual.

Lawyers and witnesses have yet to catch up. Confined to our homes, we have all been learning as we go how to carry on working if we can and communicating with colleagues, clients and friends. However, witnesses giving evidence in court raises important issues.
