Course Outline:
The Cross-Examination Day is a follow-on course to the Courtroom Skills Training. The day involves intensive cross-examination experience which enables experts to refine and enhance their evidence giving performance, and gain mastery of their presentation.
The course begins with a brief recap of key court skills. Then each expert is cross-examined on one of their own reports, once in the morning and once in the afternoon. The second cross-examination is video-recorded. For delegates undertaking the Cardiff University Bond Solon (CUBS) or University of Aberdeen Bond Solon (UABS) Expert Witness Certificate, this recording will be submitted to the respective Law School for assessment; experts not working toward the certificate can keep their recording.
Please note, if you are planning on working towards the CUBS or UABS Certificate, we recommend you undertake this course at least 2-3 months after attending the Excellence in Report Writing course. Additionally, a minimum 16 days before this course, we will require you to send us a court compliant expert witness report on which you will be cross-examined during the training.
Key Learning Outcomes:
- Deal with in-depth cross-examination on a full report or statement
- Make full use of supporting documents, plans, photographs, etc.
- Get to the essence of a complex case and communicate clearly with the judge
